Procedure
2 cards - standard line and 3 comparison lines
123 American males were tested with 6-8 confederates who gave them wrong answers
Took part in 18 trials, 12 of which were 'critical trials' (wrong answers)
Findings
Participants gave wrong answer 36.8% of the time
75% conformed at least once
When interviewed, participants said they conformed to avoid rejection (NSI)
Group size
Conformity dropped to 31.8% with 3 confederates
Unanimity
Conformity went down by 1/4 when there was a non-conforming confederate
Task difficulty
Conformity increased due to ISI
