Adaptations

• A mutation is a random change in the DNA base sequence that allows new alleles to be created
• Shifts in the gene pools allows characteristics to cope in the new environment
• The version of the beneficial gene must already be present in the genome, which is inherited
• The environment shifts in a way that is favourable to your adaptations
• Natural selection occurs when a permanent change in the environment favours a particular phenotype over others, leading to more copies of the allele that codes for that phenotype being present in the gene pool.
