Production Methods

Cards (6)

  • Batch production is a production method where specific parts are made in a specific timeframe and then different parts of the same product is produced all in one factory. Batch production groups parts together to make manufacturing more efficient.
  • Mass Production is a high volume production method that uses automation to produces large numbers of identical products in a rigid factory setting.
  • Products made in mass production are often cheaper than those made by hand as there is less human labour and time spent making them.
  • Mass production has high setup costs due to the large number of machines and space needed in manufacturing. However, the running costs are low due to the low amount of actual workers.
  • One-off production is the most laborious and expensive manufacturing process, but the products produced are unique and can be customised to fit the clients wants. This method can be preformed in a flexible workshop or factory as there little or no automation.
  • Automation reduces the need for manual labour, which can lead to job losses. On top of this, there is a decrease of skilled workers as there is no need to learn any manual crafts or skills to operate machinery.
