Spain + HRE up to 1530

• 1511 = Creation of the holy league, anti-French alliance, Spain and HRE both involved.
• 1516 = Ferdinand of Aragon dies, Charles becomes the king of Spain and the HRE.
• 1517 = Treaty of Cambrai (F+S+HRE), England isolated.
• 1518 = Treaty of London, perpetual peace, ultimately insignificant but established henry as a peacemaker + Wolsey became papal legate.
• 1521 = Treaty of Bruges with Charles, sided with him over France, (more territory in France, pope relations + marriage) following the 1520 field of cloth of gold.
• Charles V won against the French at the Battle of Pavia in 1525, Henry suggested joint invasion of France after, Charles declined and cancelled marriage with Princess Mary.
• 1527 = sack of Rome, Pope controlled by Charles, led to treaty of Westminster in 1527.
• Charles caused English unemployment due to trade embargo attempt by Henry.
• Charles won the Battle of Landriano against France and Peace of Cambrai (between France and Spain/Hre) in 1529, doomed diplomatic aims for divorce.
