The Cuban missile crisis consequences

• Nuclear war had been avoided, but the world was alarmed at how close the superpowers had come to using nuclear weapons
• A direct hotline was set up between the powers to make communications easier
• The Test Ban Treaty limited nuclear testing
• The Outer Space Treaty banned the use of space for military purposes, and their space research would be used for the benefit of mankind
• The USA did remove their missiles from Turkey, but it was not publicised, causing JFK to look like the winner, and Khrushchev to appear the loser
• Khrushchev would be replaced by Brezhnev in 1964
