Femoral canal

• It allows for the expansion of the femoral vein within the femoral sheath
• The anterior wall is the inguinal ligament
• The posterior wall is the pectineal ligament
• It is laterally bounded by the femoral vein
• It is bounded medially by the lacunar ligament
• It is larger in females and due to this femoral hernia is more common in females
• Lymphatic vessels - they pass through the femoral triangle as well
