Neurons

    Cards (15)

    • Nervous system (CNS)?
Nervous System -> CNS --> Brains + Spinal Cord
    • Nervous System (PNS) Somatic?
Nervous system --> Peripheral nervous system --> Somatic nervous system --> sympathetic
    • Nervous System (PNS) autonomic?
Nervous system --> Peripheral nervous system --> autonomic nervous system --> parasympathetic
    • Brain?
4 lobes - occipital (visual information) frontal ( abstract thought and logic) Parietal (spatial awareness) and temporal ( auditory information)
    • Spinal cord?
sends messages from the brain to the rest of the body. responsible for reflex actions
    • Somatic and sympathetic nervous system?
somatic: sensory information from the outside and muscle movement. Sympathetic: fight or flight impulses travel to target organ
    • Autonomic and parasympathetic nervous system?
Autonomic: control involuntary internal process e.g., breathing Parasympathetic: cools down the body, lowers heart rate and blood pressure
    • Sensory neurons?
Found in receptors, send messages to the brain from spinal cord, impulses reach the brain as sensations
    • Relay neurons?

shorter, found between the sensory and motor neurons, quick transmission brain and spinal cord
    • Motor neurons?

found in the CNS. muscle movement, when stimulated release neurotransmitters. binds to receptors trigger movement.
    • Myelin sheath?
insulates the axon so electrical impulses are kept in
    • Dendrites?

connected to cell body and receive signals from other neurons
    • Axon terminal?

      connects neurons
    • Action potential?

info from the axon as electrical impulses
    • Vesicles?
Action potential > reaches the vesicles (In the axon terminal) > vesicles then release neurotransmitters.
