  • Line – is an identifiable path created by a point moving in space.
  • Shape – A shape is any two-dimensional area with a recognizable boundary.
  • Form – When a shape becomes three-dimensional, it becomes a “form.”
  • Texture – it is the physical quality of a surface.
  • Balance – is the equal distribution of visual weight.
  • Symmetrical designs are the same or similar on both sides of an axis.
  • Asymmetrical designs are different, but weight is still evenly distributed.
  • color -  trigger an emotional response.
  • Hue – is basically just another word for color. It is also called a spectral color; high intensity is a bright color, whereas one of low intensity is a dull color.
  • Tone (value) – is the relative lightness or darkness of a color. A color with added white is called a tint; a color with added black is called a shade.
  • Monochromatic – the easiest formula for harmony because it only uses one color or hue.
  • Analogous – uses colors that are next to each other on the wheel.
  • Complementary – these are combinations of colors which are opposite of each other  in the color wheel.
  • Split complementary – uses colors on either side of the complement
  • Triadic – uses three colors that are evenly spaced,
  • Tetradic – forms a rectangle on the wheel using two complementary color pairs.
  •  Readability is an important factor in any design. The colors should be legible and easy on the eyes. That means NOT using colors in every little detail. Neutral colors like black, white and gray can help balance your design to make your hues pop.
