Transpiration & Stomata

• Light intensity - the brighter the lights, the greater the transpiration rate
• temperature - the warmer it is, the faster transpiration happens
• air flow - the better the air flow around a leaf, the greater the transpiration rate
• humidity - the drier the air around a leaf, the faster transpiration happens
• guard cells are adapted to open and close

  • kidney shape which open and closes the stomata
  • a lot of plant water the guard cells fill with it and pump and turgid
  • short of water, guard cells lose water and become faccid making the stomata close
  • thin outer walls and thickened inner walls making the opening and closing work
  • sensitive to light and close at night
  • adapted for gas exchange
