Cell division

Cards (4)

  • Describe the cell cycle
    First stage:
    • DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome
    • Cell enlargement
    • Duplication of internal structures such as mitochondria and ribosomes

    Second stage (mitosis):
    • One set of chromosomes is pulled to each side of cell.
    • Nucleus divides.

    Third stage (cytokinesis):
    • Cytoplasm and cell membrane divide to form two genetically identical daughter cells.
  • Why is mitosis important?
It is essential for growth and development of multicellular organisms.
  • What type of reproduction does mitosis occur
    asexual reproduction
  • Order in size: cell, gene, chromosome, nucleus
    SMALLEST
    gene
    chromosome
    nucleus
    cell
    LARGEST
