    • Combines elements of the line organizational structure with specialized staff departments that provide advisory & support functions
    • Staff departments provide expertise & services that support the line departments in achieving their objectives
  • Functional organizational chart
    • Groups employers according to their skills & expertise to specialized their specific function, such as marketing or production
    • Leads to operational efficiency within each group but can create silos where departments may not communicate effectively with one another or share information
