Distribution

• Tropical storms are essentially deep depressions with winds speeds varying for 60kmh to 200kmh
• They form over oceans within 30 degrees of the equator
• They begin on the eastern side of oceans and move westward
• Hurricanes start in the Atlantic ocean on the east coast of Africa and move towards central and Northern America
• Tropical cyclones start in the Indian Ocean and move towards countries like India, Madagascar and Bangladesh
• Typhoons start over the Pacific ocean and hit areas of the East coast of Asia and Australia
