  • The country has international debts that date back to 2004 - the economic situation is dire - can't afford to fund healthcare or education
  • Due to poor economy its led to an increase in crime rates and human rights abuses
  • Liberalism = governments responsibility to uphold the human rights and cooperation between states to prevent human rights abuses
  • Realism = states act in self interest and will only cooperate if it benefits them
  • Marxist theory = state power is used by capitalists to exploit workers, therefore it is the duty of the proletariat (workers) to overthrow the bourgeoisie (capitalists)
  • The country is classed as a failed state
  • Failed states are characterised by weak institutions, high levels of corruption, poverty, violence and political instability
