  • Adaptations allow organisms to survive
  • Organisms are adapted to live in different environmental conditions. The features or characteristics that allow them to do this are called adaptations.
  • Morphological adaptation

    Features of an organism's body structure - such as shape or colour
  • Artic fox - morphological adaptations
    • white fur so their camouflaged against snow
    • to retain heat they have a thick layer of body fat and thick fur and a relatively large body mass.
  • Fennec fox - morphological adaptations
    They live in hot places so have adaptations to loose heat:
    • thin layer of body fat
    • large ears which give them a large surface area compared to volume
  • Behavioural adaptations
    Ways that an organism behaves
  • Antelope - behavioural adaptation
    • lives in groups. This means that there are more eyes to look out for predators, which increase chance of survival.
  • Birds - behavioural adaptation
    • migrate to warmer climates during the winter to avoid cold conditions
