The nervous system and neurons

Cards (6)

    1. Frontal lobe - personality / communication
    2. temporal lobe - emotions
    3. parietal lobe - sense + perception
    4. occipital lobe - vision processing
  • CNS -
brain - centre of conscious awareness , vital automatic functions
spine - info travels to send to brain ( reflex action)
  • PNS -
autonomic nervous system- vital automatic functions eg - breathing
somatic nervous system- controls muscle movement and receives info from sensory receptors
  • Sensory - large dendrite short axon
relay - short dendrite short axon
motor - short dendrite large axon
  • Neuron
dendrites - receive messages from other neurons triggering action potential
cell body - contains cell’s nucleus
myelin sheath - insulating layer , speed up rate of message transmissions
Schwann’s cells - form myelin sheath
node of ranvier - increase speed of impulse
  • Neurone not stimulated = polarised = negative charge
stimulated caused neurone to depolarise = if it reaches threshold = action potential
