disinfectants and antiseptics

Cards (4)

    • Disinfectants and antiseptics are used to control the spread of pathogens by reducing their number in the outside environment. Therefore, it reduces the chance of infection.
    • Disinfectants are used to kill pathogens on surfaces, e.g. door handles
    • Antiseptics are used to kill pathogens on the body.
    • They are non-specific antimicrobial agents, which means they can deactivate and destroy most biological agents (bacteria, viruses, fungi) using various modes of action. These include denaturing proteins, disrupting cell membranes and dissolving lipids.
