  • Connexon of one cell --> coupled with corresponding connexon in the next cell --> From a pore between the cells + to Join the cytoplasms
  • Function: synchronize the functions of cells within a tissue
• Most normal cells within solid tissues have functional gap junction intracellular communication
• Tumor promotors (DDT, Phenobarbital) --> inhibit GJIC
• • Cancer cells of solid tissue: dysfunctional GJIC
  • Normal cells --> Cancer cells = Loss of GJIC
• Normal cells hold initiated cell in check thru cell-cell communication

  • If tumor promotor block communication --> initiated cell population proliferates + clonally expands to form tumor
