Null Hypothesis

• States that no difference exists in reality
• States that data will not vary in the way predicted by the alternative hypothesis
• Null hypothesis - The statistical hypothesis of no difference or no relationship

  All the investigation/experiments start from the assumption that the experiment will not work and that the IV will not affect the DV
• Examples: There's no difference in the IQ scores of ps who eat cheesy Wotsits and those who eat fish

  There's no relationship between the hours of psychology revision undertaken and A Level Psychology grades
• A researcher is looking to reject the null hypothesis and support the alternative hypothesis uses inferential statistics
