He leased out govt land to drill for oil reserves at Teapot Dome, Wyoming and in doing so received illegal payments of over $400,000 from oil companies
Secrets of the deals he made with the oil companies reached the press in 1922
The govt enquiry not completed until 1927 and Fall found guilty of bribery, fined $100,000 and sent to prison
