    • Aboriginal people have a detailed knowledge base passed down through generations of traditional use of different plants to treat disease symptoms.
    • This knowledge needs to be preserved as scientists are now discovering that these plants have bioactive chemical compounds including antimicrobial properties. The increase and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria combined with the rise of emerging infectious diseases means that these bioactive chemical compounds in native plants may hold potential solutions.
