• Georgian Affair: In 1920, during the first unsuccessful phase of the Polish war, Lenin's government recognized Georgia's independence. However, in February 1921, after the situation in Poland had stabilized, the Red Army invaded and occupied Georgia. Georgia, along with its Caucasian neighbors Armenia and Azerbaijan, became a Soviet republic.
• When the Japanese left Siberia due to U.S. pressure, the Far Eastern Republic joined Soviet Russia. In 1925, when the Japanese left northern Sakhalin, the process of reclaiming the old empire's territories was finished.
