• Common causes of bronchiectasis:

  • Post-infective causes – TB, measles, whooping cough
  • Mucociliary clearance defects – cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia
  • Immune defects – hypogammaglobulinaemia
  • Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA)
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • Localised bronchial obstruction – foreign body, tumour
• Common causes of bronchiectasis:

  • 53% Idiopathic (dont know the cause)
  • 29% Post infectious
  • 8% Immune defect
  • 7% Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA)
