Saturday, March 16, 1521 - 300 leguas from Latroni, named Zamal
Sunday, March 17 1521 - captain-general desired to land on another island which was uninhabited
Monday, March 18 1521 - we saw a boat coming toward us with 9 men in it.
The captain-general, seeing that they were reasonable men, and gave them red caps, mirrors, combs, bells, ivory, bocasine, and other things.
When they saw the captain’s courtesy, they presented fish, a jar of palm wine, which they call uraca , figs more than one palmo long and two cocoanuts
Just as we have bread, wine, oil, and milk, so those people get everything from the palm tree
captain-general took them to his ship and showed them all his merchandise cloves, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, nutmeg, mace, gold,
The island where we were is called Humunu; but in as much as we found two springs there of the clearest water, we called it Acquada da li buoni Segnialli [i.e., “the Watering-place of good Signs'']
There are many islands in that district, and therefore we called them the archipelago of San Lazaro, as they were discovered on the Sabbath of St. Lazurus
Friday, March 22 1521 - group of men arrived as promised in two boats laden with coconuts, sweet oranges, palm-wine, and a cock, to demonstrate the availability of fowls in the area.
Holy Monday, March 25 1521 - ship prepared to weigh anchor. Due to rain, Pigafetta slipped and fell overboard unnoticed. Thankfully, they were rescued, attributing their survival to Virgin Mary
The ship then set course west-southwest, passing between four small islands: Cenalo, Hiunanghan, Ibusson, and Abarien.
Thursday, March 28 1521 - ship anchored near an island. A small boat, known as a boloto, with 8 men aboard, approached the flagship. Communication by a slave from Sumatra.
The captain honored the men with gifts, which the king reciprocated with an offer of gold and ginger, though the captain politely declined.
Holy Friday, March 29 1521 - captain-general sent his slave to ask the king for food and to express that they came as friends. The king came with 6/8 men in the same boat and entered the ship
Captain-general told him through the slave that one of those armed men was worth 100 of his own men.
Palace of the king which was built like a hayloft and was thatched with fig [i.e., banana] and palm leaves. They used anime wrapped gum for lights and slept on bamboo mats with pillows made of leaves
Raja Colambu - 3 spots of gold on his teeth, perfumed with storax and benzoin, tawny skin painted all over
His island was called Butuan and Calagan while he was the first king Raia Colambu.
The kings would hunt together on that island when they wanted to see each other while Raia Siaui was the second king's name.
Holy Sunday, March 31 1521 - We landed with about fifty men. The captain sprinkled the entire bodies of the two kings with musk water.
On asking them which port was the best to get food, they replied that there were three, namely, Ceylon, Zubu, and Calaghann, but that Zubu was the largest and the one with most trade
One of those people brought us about a porringer full of rice and also eight or ten figs fastened together to barter them for a knife which at the most was worth 3 catrini.
One of those people wanted to give him a pointed crown of massy gold, of the size of a colona for six strings of glass beads
They utilize the reddish-colored fruit known as areca, which they chew, as a refreshing beverage
Mazaua - It lies in a latitude of nine and two-thirds degrees toward the Arctic Pole, and in a longitude of one hundred and sixty-two degrees from the line of demarcation. It is twenty-five leagues from the Acquada.
Passing among five islands, namely, Ceylon, Bohol, Canighan, Baybai, and Gatighan. In the last named island of Gatigan, there are bats as large as eagles.
There is a distance of 20 leguas from Mazaua to Gatighan. We set out westward from Gatighan, but the king of Mazaua could not follow us. and consequently, we awaited him near three islands, namely, Polo, Ticobon, and Pozon
We go to Zubu from Gatighan, the distance to Zubu being 15 leguas.
April 7, we entered the port of Zubu, passing by many villages.
King Cata Raia - it was but 4 days since a junk from Ciama [i.e., Siam] laden with gold and slaves had paid him tribute.
People in Butuan asked the Philippine Histrocial Committee to rehabilitate the monument. The monument was re-erected but the marble stating the site of the first mass was removed
Historian Pablo Pastells stating by the footnote to Francisco Colin’s Labor Evangelica that Magellan did not go to Butuan but from Limasawa to Cebu
Francisco Albo (pilot of Magellan’s flagship) not mention the first mass but mentioned that they erected a cross on a mountain which overlooked 3 islands
Father Bernard studied pigafetta’s maps, which place in Mazaua off the southern tip if Leyte
Cavite Mutiny of 1872 - The issue is to settle whether or not the three priests were guilty of the rebellion case they were accused of which resulted to their execution by “garrote” as penalty a month after the said mutiny
Trinidad H. Pardo de Tavera - Filipino Version of the Cavite Mutiny of 1872. In his point of view, the incident was simply a mutiny. Filipino soldiers and laborers revolted because their privileges were removed.
