Stages of attachment

• What is pre-attachment? (stage one)

  From birth to six weeks, baby shows no particular attachment to a specific caregiver.
• What is indiscriminate? (stage two)

  From 6 weeks to 7 months, infant begins to show preference for primary and secondary caregivers.
• What is discriminate? (stage three)

  From 7 months onwards, infant shows strong attachment to one specific caregiver.
• What is multiple? (stage four)

  From 10 months onwards, growing bonds with other caregivers.
