The problem of evil

• Moral evil= pain + suffering brought by human action or neglect (genocide, war, murder)
• natural evil= pain + suffering not brought about by human action (disease, natural disasters)
• Midgley = there is a potential connection between moral and natural evil in that tendencies towards evil are natural evolved, which can be an effective defence against theodicies that only fix one kind of evil
