  • Viral Disease - Measles
    • spread by droplets from an infected sneeze or cough
    • red skin rash and signs of a fever
    • very serious/ fatal - it can lead to pneumonia or inflammation of brain
    • most people are vaccinated against this disease when they were younger
  • Viral Disease - HIV
    • spread by sexual contact or exchanging body fluid
    • flu like symptoms for few fist weeks then calmed down
    • attacks the immune system and if it's badly damaged it can't cope with other infections or cancers
    • controlled with antiretroviral drugs
  • Viral Disease - Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV)
    • affects many plants
    • causes a mosaic pattern on the leaves of the plant
    • discolouration means the plant can't carry out photosynthesis
  • fungal disease - Rose Black Spot
    • fungus that causes black/purple spots which develop on a rose plants
    • it means less photosynthesis can happen
    • spread through water in the wind
    • treat disease using fungicides and by stripping the plant of the affected leaves
  • Protist Disease - Malaria
    • takes place in mosquito (vector) - they pick up malaria then infect animals by feeding on them
    • infects by inserting protist into blood vessels
    • repeating episodes of fever (fatal)
    • reduced by stopping mosquitos from breeding
    • protected by using insecticides and mosquito nets
