  • there are different bands of rock meaning the coast is liable to differential erosion
  • softer, less resistant rock is eroded more quickly due to the four processes
  • the harder less resistant rock sticks out as its not eroded as quickly
  • since the headless sticks out it is subject to the highest energy waves. the bays are sheltered and receive low energy waves that deposit rather than erode. this means the coastline becomes straight again and the process may start again under the right conditions
