(ZAMASAAT)Physical and Chemical Change .

Cards (13)

  • Physical Changes are changes in matter without its identity(chemical composition).
  • Breaking a glass, Cutting of paper, Diamond polishing and Changing State are all example so of physical changes.
  • There are 2 type so of Physical Change: Endothermic and Exothermic.
  • Endothermic: absorb energy (take energy in), EX: melting, boiling, evaporation and sublimation.
  • Exothermic: releases energy (give energy out), EX: freezing, condensation, combustion and deposistion.
  • State of matter
Depends on surrounding temperature and pressure
  • Melting
    1. Changes from solid to liquid
    2. Example: ice to water
  • Evaporation
    1. Changes from liquid to gas
    2. Example: water to vapor
  • Boiling Point
The temperature at which vapor pressure equals the atmospheric pressure
  • Freezing
    1. Changes from liquid to solid
    2. Example: water to ice
  • Condensation
    1. Changes from gas to liquid
    2. Example: vapor to water
  • Sublimation
    1. Changes from solid to gas directly without passing through the liquid state
    2. Example: naphthalene (moth balls) can sublimate directly to gas
  • Deposition
    1. Changes from gas to solid directly without passing through the liquid state
    2. Example: naphthalene gas can directly change to solid when cooled
