• alfred halstead - suggested the name volleyball
• 1896 - year when the first game of volleyball was player
• passing - simply getting the ball to someone else on your team after it's been served or hit over the net by the opposing team
• setting - gets the ball hanging in the air , ready to be spiked by another teammate with force
• spiking - act of slamming the ball in a downward motion across the volleyball net to the other team's side of the court
• blocking - jump and deflect the opponent's attack before it even crosses the net, which can take them by surprise and give your team an easy point
• digging - defensive maneuver that can save your team from an offensive strike or attack.

• opposite hitter - known as the right-side hitter, these player needs to be a perfect balance of both offense and defense
• middle blocker - sometimes known as the middle-hitter, is the tallest player on the volleyball team. their main role is the first line of defense against the opposing team's hits
• libero - can becoming confusing for non-volleyball players. they can only play in the back row of the court
• defensive specialist - has the ability to substitute out any player on the court
