  • Preventing Injuries
    • Check equipment is in good condition
    • Apply Principles of Training (25-20)
  • Correct clothing/footwear
    • Avoid anything that could get caught (e.g. jewellery, watches)
    • Wear suitable footwear (e.g. studded football boots, spiked running shoes) to prevent slipping and injury
  • Warming up and cooling down
    1. Warming up prepares muscles and joints for exercise
    2. Cooling down can help prevent muscle stiffness and soreness
  • Competing at the appropriate level

    • Exercise with people at a similar level to avoid overdoing it
    • Compete in the right age range
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    • Wear a helmet when cycling to protect head from injuries
    • Wear gumshields in contact sports to prevent damage to teeth and mouth
  • Lifting and carrying equipment safely
    Bend knees rather than back
  • Hazards in different places
    • Sports hall: Slippery floors, badly stored equipment, damaged equipment, trip hazards
    • Fitness centre: Incorrect use of weights, need for health and safety instructions and supervision
    • Playing field: Holes, lumps, rubbish (e.g. broken glass)
    • Artificial outdoor area: Wrinkled artificial grass, damaged equipment
    • Swimming pool: Drowning risk, need for depth signs and lifeguards, rules (e.g. no running or dive bombing)
  • You need to be able to apply these ways of preventing injury to different activities, considering the actions involved and where the activity takes place
