    Communication is a two-way process where information is sent from one person through a channel to another, who reacts by giving feedback

    Encoding is how the message is communicated eg verbally, written or visually

    The medium/channel of communication is the method or transmission used to convey/deliver the message

    The receiver is the person who is receiving the message

    Feedback is the interaction as a result of the message

    Noise refers to physical and psychological barriers

    Psychological noise comes from within us for example stereotypes, biases, beliefs and assumptions.

    Physical noise is any type of noise that distracts us for example loud colleagues

    Environmental noise is any noise that comes from the environment around us
  • What is semantic noise?
    Semantic noise is created by the sender, when the sender has failed to target their message or channel to the need of the receiver. Example use of technical language

    Formal communication is structured and follows an established hierarchy within the organisation

    Unofficial communication is interpersonal exchanges and discussions that occur within the organisation, often outside formal meetings or official communications
