  • Criteria for being a Filipino
    • Those who are citizens of the Philippines at the time of the adoption of this constitution

    • Those who are born before January 17, 1973, and whose mothers elected Philippine citizenship upon reaching the age of majority
    • Those who are naturalized in accordance to law

    • Natural-born Filipino Citizen - those who are qualified in accordance to paragraphs 1, 2, and 3, of the first section of Article IV of the 1987 Constitution
    • Naturalized Filipino Citizen - qualified in accordance to paragraph 4 of the 1987 Constitution, can't run for office, has limitations/conditions
  • Ways to acquire Filipino citizenship
    • By judgment of the court
    • By direct act of congress
    • By administrative proceedings
  • Natural-born citizen
    Those who are natural-born Filipino citizens are citizens of the Philippines from birth without requiring them to perform any act to perfect or acquire their Filipino citizenship. Those who elected to be Filipino citizens in accordance to paragraph (3), section (1) under this constitution are deemed to be natural-born citizens
  • Reacquisition or elimination of Filipino citizenship
    Philippine citizenship may be lost or reacquired in the manner of law
