  • Devolution was introduced to Northern Ireland in 1998 as a peace protest between catholic and protestants following the Good Friday Agreement and power sharing was key. However, parties refused to work together within government and had to be suspended between 2002-2007 and since 2022
  • Northern Ireland has primary legislative control over areas that aren't reserved by parliament, however still don't have tax raising powers and has similar powers to Wales
  • The Northern Ireland Assembly can legislate some reserved matters with the support of the Northern Ireland secretary
  • Northern Ireland receiving further devolution is extremely unlikely as unionists are very opposed
