      • Royal society created in 1645 to discuss progress and use new tech.
    • Religion:
      • God was still used as treatment but not as much as in medieval period.
      • Reformation caused the lessesning of religions impact.
      • Still influences people so people remained believing Galen and Hippocrates.
    • Chance / luck:
      • Pare ran out of of hot oil which made him have to make his new ointment (egg yolkes, rose oil and turpentine).
    • Education:
      • More diverse things to stduy about (studied off of work of Vessalius and Harvey).
      • Training was more emphasies on a scientific approach.
      • Barber surgeons and wise women would still learn by watching and not using new knowledge.
    • Attitude (arrogance):
      • People still prefered cheaper and more familiar remedies.
      • Thomas Hobbs, 'I would rather take advice from an experianced wise woman than a new physiscian'.
    • Science and Tech:
      • Discoveries in other areas of science like astronomy.
      • Encouraged docters to seek new knowledge for medicine.
      • Printing press helped the spread of new ideas.
