• evangelicals

  • believe in resurrection of the body where the body will stay in the grave until the last day
  • jesus will return to earth and declare the end of the world, and then the dead will be raised for the final judgement
  • good go to heaven, bad go to hell
  • some believe the good non-christians will also go to heaven
• liberals

  • believe in immortality of the soul where the body dies but the soul goes onto a spiritual world
  • all souls will be given a second chance to make it to heaven
  • hell is not a real place, only a separation from god
  • some dont believe in hell at all
• catholics

  • perfectly purified go to heaven, evil people go to hell
  • those with unforgiven sins go to purgatory to be purified from their sins
  • at the end of the world, everyone is raised and souls from purgatory will join those in heaven
  • no protestants believe in it - no biblical foundation
• importance for life after death

  • what they believe and how they live determines what happens to them after death
  • try to avoid sins as sins can stop them entering heaven
  • gives life meaning and purpose, knowing there is a reward after
