  • Samples need to be atomized
  • Procedure:
    • Atoms illuminated w/ a light source to excite atoms --> Excited states
    • Atoms undergo radiative deactivation [Excited --> Ground state]; Release energy
    • Emit characteristic radiation (Fluorescence)
  • More sensitive than AAS for SOME elements b/c fluorescence signal have relatively low background (cannot measure absorbance)
