  • what is a case study?
    A detailed investigation into a single individual or small group of individuals.
    Usually conducted to investigate people with unusual and rare experiences, that couldn’t be investigated in an experiment.
  • strengths of case studies?
    Researchers can gather a lot of detailed information about a person’s experience.
    They provide a way of studying rare situations that you couldn’t manipulate.
  • weaknesses of case studies?
    • cannot generalise to other people
    • cannot establish a cause and effect relationship
    • may breach BPS guidelines on confidentiality
