Cards (7)
What is mitosis?
A cycle that produces two
daughter
nuclei with the same number of
chromosomes
as the
parent
cell and each other
Has an exact copy of the
DNA
of the parent cell
Important for
growth
and
replacing
damaged
or
worn-out
cells
What is interphase?
Comes
before
mitosis
During this, the
DNA
is
replicated
so there is now two
identical
copies of each
chromosome
What are the stages of
mitosis
in order?
(
Interphase
),
Prophase
,
Metaphase
,
Anaphase
,
Telophase
What is prophase?
Chromosomes
become visible, and are seen as
two
chromatids
joined together
Nuclear envelope
disappears
What is metaphase?
Chromosomes
arrange themselves at the centre of the cell (
equator
)
What is anaphase?
Chromatids
of each pair of
chromosomes
migrate to
opposite poles
of the cell
What is telophase?
New chromosomes
collect at the
opposite poles
of the cell
Nuclear envelope
reforms around each set, producing
two daughter nuclei
