  • Universal credit - helps people with living costs

    You can get it if you are out of work or have a low income
    This links to subcultures as mainly subcultures form in area of poverty and low income.
    They can reduce crime as there is less of a need to commit utilitarian crimes as they have more money now.
  • Minimum wage - the lowest amount of wage permitted for a certain age range

    There will be an increase to £11.44 for workers over the age of 21
    This links to subcultures as if they are not old enough to work they cannot earn money therefore will resort to crime
    This reduces crime as people will be earning more so they don’t need to commit crimes for more money.
  • NACRO -They improve and achieve better outcomes for people
    Education centres

    This links to sociological theories as to reverse inequality between the poor and the rich, education centres provide opportunities for the working class. They are affective as they 90% of the young people they have helped have passed their GCSE's and feel safe in their learning environment.
  • Labelling -
    Cause - when someone is labelled they will live up to it and accept it
    Policy - get rid of labels, decriminalise certain behaviours, have less severe punishments, police don’t send people to prison straight away
    Effectiveness - mostly works on minor crimes
  • Right realism - formal
    Cause - rational choice
    Policy - harsher punishments, longer prison sentences (penal populism 1977), increase CCTV and police patrolling
  • Left realism -
    Cause - unequal society
    Policy - remove inequality, improve opportunities (better housing, etc), democratic policing
    Effectiveness - campaigns, not enough resources, better relationships with police
  • Surveillance theories -
    Cause - if there is no CCTV, people will commit crimes in that area
    Policy - add more CCTV, clear windows, neighbourhood watch
