“saint” is someone who is recognized by the Church as one who had an extremely close relationship with God
(Pope John Paul II) canonized 482 Saints between 1982-2004.
He canonized more saints in 22 years than all of the Popes in the previous 500 years combined.
The process through which a holy person becomes an official Saint in the Church is called “canonization.” It generally begins at least 5 years after a person’s death.
A person’s “patron saint” could be the saint with whom she or he shares a name.
