  • Contrast
    Difference in color, size, and texture. It is created by using opposites, near, or beside each other such as light object next to a dark object, or smooth texture beside a rough texture.

    The focal point of the composition. It is the most important part of the composition. Stressing a particular part of an artwork by using color and texture is very important to help the subject stand out and be noticeable.

  • Magayon is a heroine whose name means "beautiful lady". She is the main character in "The Origin of Mount Mayon" in Albay. The tribes named the volcano "Bulkang Magayon" describing its perfect cone-shape similar to the beauty of Magayon. As time passed, the name was shortened and was called "Mayon."
  • Printmaking
    An art form characterized by production of images on paper, fabric, or plastic by different techniques like relief printing, intaglio, stencil printing, or lithography.
  • Relief Printing
    Areas not to be printed are carved away from the surface, while areas to be printed are left higher.
  • Intaglio
    The image is incised directly into the plate or surface by etching or engraving.
  • Lithography
    The image is painted or drawn onto the stone.
  • Stencil Printing
    The image is cut out and printed by spraying ink or paint.
  • Creating a Print Using the Relief Printing Technique
    1. Plan and sketch the areas to be carved out and areas that will remain
    2. Carve the areas not to be printed using your sharp chisel or carving tools
    3. Roll on the printer's ink onto the rubber or wood block
    4. Place a clean paper over it and rub the back of the paper
    5. Repeat the process to get several copies of the print
    6. You may also create variations from the same print by using different ink colors
  • Folk dance
    A term used to describe a large number of dances that tend to share the following qualities: they are originally danced earlier, their performance was dominated by an inherited tradition, and they were danced by common people.
  • Folk dances are traditionally performed during social events by people with little or no professional training. New dances are often learned informally by just observing others and/or receiving help from others. Folk dancing is viewed as more of a social activity rather than competitive, although there are professional and semi-professional folk dance groups and occasional folk dance competitions.

    Norms dictated by the society on how a male and a female should act and behave appropriately. It differs from one culture to another.
  • Androgynous
    Used to describe people who exude both feminine and masculine traits equally. Neither dominates the other.
  • The family is a huge influence in gender identity. It is your first community and you manifest similarities with the members of the family.
