• Menisci anatomy:

  • lateral meniscus is smaller, medial is larger
  • medial meniscus more prone to long term degenerative injuries
  • attached to bone via roots
  • if roots are torn - more movement at meniscus

  
• Menisci functions:

  • Axial load → ‘hoop stress’
  • Joint congruency
  • Shock absorption
  • Joint stability
