  • There are 4 pairs of gills attatched to a gill arch
  • Each gill is supported by a gill arch
  • Gill arch provides support to hold several comb-like structures called gill fillaments
  • Gill fillaments extend out hotizontally from the gill arches
  • The gill filament has tiny hair like projections called lamellae which increase surface area for gas exchange
