mitosis

• all human cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes
• a pair of chromosomes is called a diploid
• except gametes have just 23 chromsomes
• 1. nucleus dissolves and genetic material is duplicated
• 2. the two sets of chromosomes move to different sides
• 3. mitochondria , ribosomes & other organelles are duplicated
• 4. the cell divides producing two genetically identical diploid cells
• new cells are made for growth and repair
