Exam 5/4

Cards (5)

  • Hormone organs
    Hypothalamus, pancreas, ovaries and testies
  • Mineralocorticoid
Found in zona glomerulosa, regulate electrolytes and water, with aldosterone being the most important mineralocorticoid
  • PTH mechanisms
    1. Helps regulate calcium levels in the blood
    2. Stimulates osteoclasts to digest bone matrix
    3. Enhances the reabsorption of Ca2+ in the intestines and the secretion (discharge) of phosphate by the kidneys
    4. Rising Ca2+ in the blood inhibits PTH release
    5. Has a humoral stimulus
  • Gluconeogenesis
The formation of glucose from lactic acid and noncarbohydrates, primarily occurring in the liver, promoted by hormones such as glucagon and cortisol
  • Hypothalamic-hypophyseal tract
A neural connection between the hypothalamus and the posterior pituitary gland, allows for the transport of oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone (ADH) from the hypothalamus to the posterior pituitary
