  • Theravada, which means “the way of the elders,” is one of the two main schools of Buddhism. Its adherents consider Theravada to be the most authoritative branch because they believe their teachings come directly from the historical Buddha.
  • The Dharma, or teachings of the Buddha, is symbolized by the wheel. Three swirls, which stand for the three jewels of Buddhism—the sangha (the community), the Dharma (the teachings of the Buddha), and the Buddha himself

  • One of the oldest and most authoritative collections of Buddhist scriptures in Theravada Buddhism is the Tripitaka, which is also known as the "Pali Canon."
  • It follows the Tripitaka, meaning "three baskets" or sections
  • Vinaya Pitaka: contains guidelines and rules for Buddhist monks and nuns to follow or known as Sangha. Its contents were recalled by the monk Upal
  • Sutta Pitaka: contains the teachings and dialogues of the Buddha, mostly about theological matters and moral behavior of all Buddhists. The contents of this was recited by Ananda who is Buddha’s cousin
  • Abhidhamma Pitaka: on the other hand, is considered the basket of higher teachings and consists of systematic analyses of Buddhist doctrine, particularly on philosophy and psychology. it also tells the stories of Buddha and his previous lives. It was recited by Buddha’s successor Mahakashyapa
  • Devis are the names of celestial entities in Theravada Buddhism.
