  • Compartment Syndrome:
    • Ischaemia, secondary to increased pressure within an osteofascial compartment that contains muscles, nerves and blood vessels
    • categorised as acute (trauma) or chronic (exercise induced)
  • Acute (Trauma)/ Chronic (Exercise Induced):
    1. Increase in compartment pressure ->
    2. Decrease in muscle capillary circulation ->
    3. Increase in lactate, oedema and venous stasis ->
    4. Ischemia and necrosis ->
    5. Causes pain, muscle weakness, tight/ pressure sensation, pins and needles, decreased pulses, pale colour
