  • Astronomy
    Astronomy is the study of
    everything in the universe
    beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
That includes objects we can see
with our naked eyes, like the
Sun , the Moon , the planets,
    and the stars .
  • Astrology
Refers to the belief that the
    position of the sun, moon,
    planets, and stars, affect
    people’s personality and
    influences their lives.
  • Constellations as part of religion - Many cultures believed that the positions of the stars were their God's way of
    telling stories.
  • Constellations as a calendar and navigation tool - used to create and track the calendar sothey knew when to plant crops and harvest them. Constellations were also used for navigation and to help sailors travel across oceans.
  • Constellations as a landmark - Because constellations are in a fixed location, they are often used as landmarks in the sky. Many stars, nebulae, and other objects are named after the constellations they are found in.
  • Comet - It is believed that the
appearance of a Comet is a sign
    of destructive and tragic events,
  • Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock, and dust
that orbit the Sun. When a comet's orbit brings it close to the
Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing
    head larger than most planets.
  • A meteor is a streak of light in the sky caused by a meteoroid
    passing through Earth's atmosphere.
  • Coment
    • made up of frozen gases/ice, rock, and dust
    • from the Greek word “kometes” which means “long-haired star”
    • ”dirty snowballs”
    • “fossils of the solar system”
    • frozen leftovers from the formation of the solar system
  • Parts of a Comet
    Nucleus
solid central part of the comet
    ● made up of rock, dust, and ice
    Coma
    cloudlike structure around the
nucleus that is formed when ice
turns to gas as the comet gets
    closer to the Sun
  • Dust Tail
    ● is formed when the sun’s
    radiation pushes dust particles
    away from the coma
    Ion Tail
    ● is formed when charged particles
from the sun convert the comet’s
    gases into ions
  • Classification of Comets
