  • Protection Against Stalking (PAS):
    • In 1997 100000 cases of stalking were reported to the police but only 70 got prosecuted under the anti-harassment law.
    • The campaign raised awareness and set up an independent parliamentary enquiry so victims could share their experiences.
    • In 2012 the law changed making stalking criminal
  • Inquest:
    • This pressure group looks at “state” deaths (those in psychiatric care or prison)
    • They aim to make sure bereaved families are examined to find blame, and help prevent future deaths.
    • Their work led to the Independent Police Complaints Commision
  • Why they work?:

    • Kept the campaign going through press releases
    • Lobbies individual MP’s
    Inquest:
    • Did its own research and gathered evidence.
    • Shared this information to show the public and politicians
    • They often deal with cases where there are a lot of victims.
