  • Mnemonics - any technique used for improving or enhancing memory, active in encoding stage of memory
  • Mnemonics
    1. as info is encoded, so are retrieval cues, making it easier to find info
    2. organises info into coherent whole, connect new info to existing info, helps make less meaningful info more meaningful
  • Mnemonics are used for info that needs to be memorised but not necessarily understood
  • Acronyms
    • word formed from the first letters of each word, letters act as retrieval cue
  • Acrostics
    • phrases where first letter of word is a cue to help with recall, for info needed in sequential order
  • Method of Loci
    • committing familiar location to memory and then pairing specific land with content
  • Storylines
    • learning and remembering important info by linking it to landscapes of country, sung narrative
  • Stories, Poems and Songs
    • taught from one person to another
  • Songlines
    • sung narratives linking important info to features of country
  • Song lines describe landmarks, locations etc.
  • Individual song lines can be in or have multiple languages due to the crossing of different boundaries in country
